Besides an instrument, what will my children need to participate in band?
EVERYONE: 1-inch binder with clear-view pocket in front (for their schedule) 5 subject dividers labeled: Warm-Ups, Current Music, Theory, Important Papers, Old Music Zipper pencil pouch with three holes to put in the binder - filled with pencils and 4 highlighters (blue, yellow, pink, orange)
Book: Tradition of Excellence Book 1 for their instrument***
FLUTES: Will need a handkerchief for cleaning the instrument after each use. You can purchase handkerchiefs at stores like Walmart, etc. If you already have a flute and are not renting one, be sure your child has a cleaning rod in the case. If they do not, any music store will have one.
CLARINETS: Will need a cloth swab for cleaning the instrument after each use. If you have a chamois swab, you may consider purchasing a cloth swab at sign-up night. The chamois swabs get stuck in the clarinets often. Clarinet players also need cork grease and reeds. The reeds clarinets will use will be Juno reeds for clarinet, 2.5 strength. A small containter like a prescription pill container or one of those containers that the mini-M&Ms come in will be used to soak reeds.
TRUMPETS and BARITONES: Trumpet and Baritone players will need valve oil and slide grease (this comes with rented instruments)
TROMBONES: Trombone players will need slide oil for the long slide they move with their arm and slide grease for the tuning slide at the top of the instrument. (these come with rented instruments) A small water spray bottle is needed as well.

PERCUSSION: Will need a Wooden xylophone kit and a practice pad
for practicing drum exercises and rhythms. I would also like percussionists to have a stick bag with Snare sticks, xylophone mallets and timpani mallets. In addition to the Tradition of Excellence Book 1 for Percussion, they will also need Garwood Whaley's Fundamental Studies for Snare Drum. It looks like this:
